    Ulmul din Căpeni – Copacul memorial Antal Jenő Arborele Anului în România 2011 Locul II în concursul „Arborele Anului în Europa 2012” Uriaşul ulm de câmp (Ulmus campestris), evaluat la o vârstă de 300 de ani, trăieşte lângă podul de pe pârâul Baraolt, la nord de satul Căpeni, în curtea unei mori de apă de odinioară. Arborele cu trei ramuri uriaşe are o mărime impresionantă, având o înălţime de peste 35 de metri şi o circumferinţă de 7,3 metri. În toamna anului 2011, în numele Asociaţiei Speo- Turistice şi de Protecţia Naturii „Lumea Pierdută”, Demeter Zoltán a înscris acest copac, la sugestia tehnicianului silvic Antal Jenő şi al profesorului de biologie Lőrincz Sándor, în concursul „Arborele Anului în România”, organizat pentru a doua oară de Fundaţia Pentru Parteneriat din Miercurea Ciuc. Titlul onorabil de „Arborele Anului” a fost câştigat în urma concursului desfăşurat pe internet, ce a durat 52 de zile, timp în care, dintre cei 12 arbori, ulmul din Căpeni a întrunit 13.207 voturi. În februarie 2012 Ulmul din Căpeni a participat, în compania altor 6 arbori câştigători ai concursurilor din ţările lor, la concursul „Arborele Anului în Europa 2012”, unde cu 9.812 voturi a ocupat un onorabil loc II. Pe 22 aprilie 2012, cu ocazia „Zilei Pământului”, în memoria tehnicianului silvic Antal Jenő (1936-2011), care a fost principalul susţinător al numirii arborelui în concurs, Ulmul din Căpeni a fost numit „Copacul memorial Antal Jenő”. The Elm Tree from Căpeni – Antal Jenő Memorial Elm Tree The Tree of the Year 2011 in Romania 2nd place in the contest “Tree of the Year 2012 in Europe” The giant elm tree (Ulmus campestris), being around 300 years old, lives near the bridge over the Baraolt rivulet, at the north side of Căpeni village, in the yard of a long ago existed water mill. The tree, having three big branches, is huge. It is 35 meters (106 feet) high and a girth of 7.5 meters (22.7 feet). At the fall of 2011, in the name of the “Lost World” speleological, tourist and environment protection association, Demeter Zoltán, at the suggestion of Antal Jenő (sylviculturist tehnician) and of Lőrincz Sándor (biology teacher), entered the elm in the contest of “Tree of the Year in Romania”, organized for the second time by “Polgár-Társ” Foundation. The honorable title has been won at the end of the internet voting contest, which lasted for over 52 days, where among the 12 finalists the elm got 13,207 votes. In February 2012 The Elm Tree from Căpeni, together with other 6 trees, the winners from 6 European countries entered the “Tree of the Year in Europe” competition. Here it got 9,812 votes and has won a respectable 2nd place. On 22nd of April 2012, with the occasion of “Day of the Earth”, in memory of Antal Jenő (1936-2011), who was the main supporter of entering the tree in the contest, The Elm Tree from Căpeni was declared “Antal Jenő Memorial Elm Tree”.
